History

Made by Charles Forman, Omgpop is marketed as a social networking site, offering features in which users can interact with each other, such as customizable profiles.

Features

Group Chat

In the middle of June 2009, the Omgpop activated the group chat feature. Members must be level 5 or above to use this feature, and there are multiple live chat rooms at any time. At random times during the day Chat Games are also available in these Chat Rooms which will reward players with XP and Coins. Voice chat is also available for Star members.

Currency

Omgpop supports an internal currency model of cash and coins. A member can earn coins by logging in regularly, playing a game everyday and earning achievements. You can buy cash via credit card and other methods and convert them into coins, but they cannot be converted back.

Omgpop Shop

Cash and coins earned on the site can be spent at the Omgpop Shop. Items include customization for your profile and gameplay, collectibles, as well as upgrades and power ups for different games.

Pets

Pets is a game on Omgpop that allows a user to have a pet. They can raise their pet by feeding it, cleaning it, sharing photos of it, and making it visit friends who has accepted your PETS friend invite. Over time, the value of your pet increases and you can sell in exchange for how much coins it's worth and get a new pet. Each day, your pet gets a free present if you log in. This feature is was released to all members in mid 2010.

Picture Club

Picture Club is a website where users can upload pictures and videos, as well as follow another user and comment on their pictures and videos.

Blog

Omgpop has a blog which provides information about new features, games, and changes made to the site.

Forum

The Omgpop forums have been opened on the December 17th, 2010.

Membership

Star

Any Omgpop user can have their membership upgraded to a Star account. Star members can instantly start games that they host without having to wait for countdowns, as well as play exclusive games and beta games, earn 50% more XP per game, and get a "Star" label next to their name. Star membership also provides more options to users who host games, including the ability to block non-members/friends and those below/above a certain level from joining the match. A Star membership can be obtained in four ways: Users who buy at least 100 Omgpop Cash (10 USD) through the Cash store will receive Star membership for a limited period of time, which varies from 3 months to 1 year depending on the amount of cash purchased. A second way of obtaining Star is by recruiting 10 or more friends to Omgpop through the recruiting tool on the bottom of the site. When 10 of them reach level 10 or higher, the recruiter receives Star for life. Members can also attain permanent Star membership for free when their accounts reach level 100.[2] Members who submit comments, suggestions, or who participate in certain contests are sometimes given free Star membership by the Omgpop crew.
In early 2010, Omgpop released a recruit feature. Recruiting friends and letting them level up will provide the recruiter with prizes. Once ten recruits reach level 10, the recruiter will get Star for life or Gold Star if they already had normal Star. Currently, the only benefit of having a Gold Star is that Gold Stars cannot get kicked out by Blue Stars or non-Stars.

Games

Omgpop's game selection includes standard board, card, and sports games, clones of more well known video games, and special versions of licensed games such as Atari's Missile Command.[3]
Some games allow a function in which players can bet coins and the winner of the match receives 90% of the coins. If a player does not have enough coins for the match, they are kicked out automatically.
Non-members can only play each game 20 times.
